Lumi“minimalist, hand-crafted lighting series designed by AUT Product Design graduate Kelly-Anne Keach as her final year project. The design was driven by Kelly-Anne’s desire to challenge material limitations through a playful experimentation process.

Lumi is crafted from slip-cast soft-paste porcelain and hand-turned American Ash wood. Soft-paste porcelain has a liquid consistency that once fired appears opaque like ceramic but when illuminated has a translucent glow like frosted glass.

The hand-turned base presents a visual contradiction, supporting the weight of the porcelain shade, while retaining a light and minimal aesthetic. The circular base is weighted, allowing the top-heavy structure to remain upright on it’s delicate stem.

We commend Kelly-Anne on her excellent work and wish her the best in the final judging!
