Wearable Jhoule Light by Yogita Agrawal

Indian designer Yogita Agrawal has created a wearable light that is charged by walking for use in rural india.

With most people in rural Indian communities spending a couple of hours walking each day, the design makes use of readily available energy. The resulting light provides illumination in homes that aren’t robust enough to support solar panels.

Agrawal says; “I believe that when designing wearables, it is crucial to have an in-depth understanding of the user: their preferences, lifestyle, culture and think about how the device can minimise disruption and seamlessly fit into their lives.”
