Interesting: Lamp That Runs On Salt Water Brings Light To Communities Lacking Electricity

304688_254_38505_wkkfSnd9KIf you’re interested in the power of design to do good check out SALt, a lamp that runs on salt water and provides reliable lighting to communities without electricity. Designed by Aisa Mijena in response to a need uncovered through immersion into indigenous communities in the Philippines, SALt provides a safe and reliable alternative to the kerosene lamps traditionally used.

By using readily available salt and water to replace kerosene fuel, the design maintains the social and cultural ritual of filling a liquid fuel source. It eliminates the need to travel long distances to purchase kerosene as well as the danger of fires caused by spilling fuel or knocking over lamps.
