Alongside Monmouth Glass Studio in the artisan design category of the third year x3 project is industry collaborator Rekindle.
Rekindle turns waste materials into crafted design objects including furniture, sculpture, and jewellery. The enterprise started out reusing waste timber from demolition in Christchurch and is now expanding their use of materials beyond waste timber.
“We see design as the tool that unlocks the qualities of resources undervalued when seen as waste. We aim to grow our capacity to support communities to utilise their waste fully and in doing so, maximize the benefits of the purposeful work involved. As a social enterprise the majority of profits are dedicated to furthering development of this work.”
The students working with rekindle are tasked with designing “an object that will advocate the unique ability of design and artisanal craft to achieve a sense of value in material resources otherwise discarded.”
We’re looking forward to seeing what designs the third years come up with as a result of this exciting collaboration!
