Designing things at scale require two things, audacity and humility.
Audacity to believe that something you design will be used by the entire world, something they want and need, and humility,
“As a designer, its not about you or your portfolio, its about the people you are designing for and how your work might help them live better lives”
“You have to understand who you are designing for”
This requires venturing out from your “bubble” and see, hear and understand who you are designing for.
