On the opening night of the ‘Fascinate’ exhibition, two awards were given to our top top students who have produced amazing work in their major projects. They are students who have contributed significantly to the Department of Industrial Design and Innovation and deserve to be recognised for their efforts:
The Head of School Award:
This year Ian Milligian received the Head of School award for his project ‘K1 BREATHING APPARATUS:’ A redesign of existing harness & air management systems for Firemen. Ian has worked at an incredibly high standard not only during his final project but throughout his degree. The level of hands-on research, prototyping and testing undertaken in his final project was inspiring and it is very exciting to see such high quality work developing in the department. We wish Ian all the best for the journey ahead!
DINZ Presentation Award
Rowan Baker has taken out this years DINZ Presentation Award for his project ‘Drum Table.’ Rowan has worked quietly and steadily throughout his final year, producing a very thoughtful and innovative childrens’ music table. The design encourages children to discover the different sounds hidden in the table top and has been beautifully resolved from a aesthetic perspective. He has not only received support from students and staff from within AUT, but was recognised by Industry judges from The Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ). Rowan has won a membership to DINZ and a mentor to help him with the road ahead. Well Done!
