Just went and checked out the California Design Exhibition on at the Auckland Art Gallery. Worth a look – it’s good way to wrap your brain around American Industrial design specific to California, and you’ll even learn terms like émigré if you read about the show on those info panels you find along the way. (Just don’t google the word in the gallery, as the kind security man will tell you off for getting your phone out!)
Check this review on Design Assembly – By Zoe Nash, this is worth a read before going to the exhibition so then you will already know a few of the names mentioned and can sound like you know it all already.
Also check the events that are happening at the same time – this Sunday 14th there’s even a talk by Roger Hall (surfboard shaper/craftsman extraordinaire) from 12 – 2, don’t miss it, unless you’re chasing that east coast swell which will bring some good waves on Sunday! If you do surf maybe we can get Roger to come for a wave after the event, who knows.
