The Depot, 28 Clarence Street, Devonport, Auckland
The Designers Institute in association with Michael Smythe will be hosting the book launch and exhibition opening to honour the professional practice of Gifford Jackson – the 91-year-old Devonport-based ‘godfather’ of New Zealand industrial designers.
The exhibition will take visitors through a singular lifetime of creative practice with manufactured examples of much of his New Zealand design work on display – including Clearlite baths, Feltonmix showers, a PEC petrol pump, a toy sundial wristwatch and a range of electric fence products.
Gifford’s original Marisol skiff will also be exhibited, along with the beautiful working drawings that have been sold to boat builders around the world. A slide show will take viewers through this inimitable journey and a new book will be available for purchase ($45).
